Armed gang activity in Haiti has led to a dual crisis of escalating violence and the collapse of the local healthcare system, according to UNICEF. In this context, FridayParts made donations to UNICEF with $500 in May on behalf of customers, thanking them for their support. We hope to help UNICEF in alleviating resource shortages caused by violence and continue supporting them in the future.

Challenges from armed gangs bring to Haiti
Armed gangs have brought chaos to Haiti, particularly in Port-au-Prince, the country’s main logistics hub responsible for receiving and distributing medical supplies nationwide. The city has become paralyzed by violent events, forcing over 160,000 residents to flee their homes. This disruption in the supply chain has rendered the healthcare system unable to function properly, failing to meet the urgent needs of those affected by increased violence and disease risks.
The breakdown of the healthcare system
Essential medications and medical supplies intended for hospitals being looted and unable to reach vulnerable children and families. Moreover, violent conflicts have severely damaged healthcare facilities, exacerbating an already dire situation where over 60% of hospitals struggle to operate normally. Additionally, many healthcare workers have fled the violence, leaving children more vulnerable and reducing their access to basic medical assistance.
The imminent collapse of the healthcare system
It is largely attributed to armed gangs disrupting the supply chain. The spread of dangerous epidemics has overwhelmed the capacity of the healthcare system. From October of the previous year to April of this year, Haiti has experienced over 80,000 cases of cholera, with individuals unable to receive aid due to a shortage of medical resources, leading to the further spread of the disease.
Malnutrition and food safety issues have resulted in decreased immunity among the local population. According to UNICEF, 4.4 million people urgently require food assistance, with 1.6 million facing severe food insecurity. This exacerbates the risk of malnutrition in children, further weakening the population’s resilience.
With the rainy season approaching in the second and third quarters, there is an impending outbreak of waterborne and mosquito-borne diseases. The healthcare system is on the brink of collapse due to armed gangs hijacking the Port-au-Prince area, preventing essential medicines, medical equipment, and other supplies from being smoothly delivered to hospitals and clinics, exacerbating difficulties in accessing medical services, and plunging the entire healthcare system into crisis.
Emergency action by UNICEF
Establishment of alternative logistics routes: UNICEF has recognized the disruption in regular import and transport channels and has opened alternative logistics routes to ensure the smooth delivery of critical supplies. They actively collaborate with the government and other international partners to explore secondary import and transportation routes to ensure that the most vulnerable children receive urgently needed vaccines, medicines, and more.
Emergency supply assistance: UNICEF has transported 38 tons of urgently needed relief supplies to Haiti, including health and cholera prevention kits, as well as other essential medical supplies. These supplies help alleviate the current shortage of medical supplies and provide urgently needed medical support to affected children.
Interagency collaboration: UNICEF closely collaborates with the Haitian government and other international organizations to develop alternative solutions. UNICEF aims to minimize the impact of this healthcare crisis on children to the greatest extent possible.

FridayParts made Donations to UNICEF in May
Donations to UNICEF
We urge support for UNICEF’s humanitarian relief efforts. Despite their tireless work in delivering medicine and essentials, the increasing demand requires more assistance. FridayParts has donated $500 each month to UNICEF and will continue to do so. We encourage more people to join this meaningful cause. Additionally, you can support our career as we pledge a portion of our sales to UNICEF. Every donation, regardless of size, can make a difference by helping UNICEF reach more children in need. Your contributions can:
- Ensure more supplies reach resource-deprived countries, including medical supplies, vaccines, safe food, and water sources.
- Restore damaged healthcare systems.
- Safeguard healthcare systems.
- Bring hope to vulnerable populations, letting them know that goodwill still exists in the world.
