Gehl Company was founded in 1859, starting as a small foundry in Wisconsin and growing into the renowned brand it is today. Louis Lucas, the founder, aimed to provide agricultural implements and machinery to the local community. Through a collaboration with German blacksmith Charles Sieverding, they designed a machine called the Hexelbank, which revolutionized agricultural production.
In 1902, John Gehl purchased the company and led its development. In 1906, it became Gehl Brothers Manufacturing Company. Despite experiencing a major fire that same year, the company successfully rebuilt and developed new products during the Great Depression.
In the 1930s, the second generation joined the company. In 1967, it was renamed Gehl Company, focusing on equipment manufacturing including loaders, excavators, dozers, and forklifts, widely used in agriculture, construction, horticulture, and municipal projects. It is renowned for innovative products, high-quality manufacturing, and excellent customer service, maintaining close partnerships with dealers and end-users.
